A Young Designer Stands to Win a Stint at Central St. Martins

Monday, September 20th, 2010

One of five outstanding young Filipino designers is slated to win an all-expense-paid trip to the UK and a short course at the renowned fashion and design school Central St. Martins courtesy of a project spearheaded by the Lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Look Magazine, Samsung, and the British Council.

These five sponsors came up with a competition involving five young designers—Pablo Cabahug, Patrick Galang, Ralph Ng, Mica Santayana, and Kermit Tesoro—who have to participate in the Inquirer Lifestyle and Samsung Face-Off. The winner, aside from winning the UK trip and Central St. Martins enrollment grand prize, will also get a chance to be mentored by Filipino fashion industry veterans.

The winner will be announced next month in a cocktail event and mini fashion show, where local industry professionals will pick a winner based on his/her aptitude with construction techniques,  design skills, theme interpretation, overall presentation, visual impact, and design marketability or business sustainability.

Disco Hair, Bleached Brows and Forest Green Eyes at Marc Jacobs SS 2011

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

At  Marc Jacobs‘ recent showing at New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011, guests we’re brought back to the 70′s. Nars’ François Nars, Redken’s Guido Palau and CND’s Jan Arnold worked on the make up, hair and nails, respectively.

François created deep emerald smoke around the eyes then smeared on some Vaseline for high-shine. Dark eyes were paired with matte burgundy lips and a touch of his signature Orgasm blush on the cheeks. Eyebrows were bleached,  an interesting contrast to full bushy brows, that has been the trend lately. Guido alternated among four hairstyles fit for a disco diva with lots of volume and frizz, with a touch of 30′s influence. Nails were kept flesh-toned and topcoated with a mattyfing polish. Stylelist quoted Jan Arnold saying, “This is the first time I’ve seen nails and brows that matched.”

Watch a video of how all the elements came together via the New York Post here.

According to HintMag.com, “Come September 13, the ubiquitous model will have a fleeting scene in an episode of the TV show…. Yup, Kloss is getting the Gossip Girl treatment, alongside Vogue’s [market editor] Meredith Melling Burke and [European editor-at-large] Hamish Bowles. In a two-part (!) FNO [Fashion Night Out] plot line, designer and Blair’s mom, Eleanor Waldorf, is reportedly on the evening’s ‘planning committee,’ along with UES [Upper East Side] fashionista Lily van der Woodsen.”

HintMag.com doesn’t give out any further details, but it’s not like we need any other reason than here mere presence to see Karlie on TV—and well, it’s Gossip Girl!!! ‘Nuff said.
