just got home from Rajo’s Gala…the one he’s so graciously blogged about on Style Bible to share the fun of planning it with all of you. (Check the Fashion blog. It’s a must-read!).

I’m all worked-up and I really can’t sleep as it was such a great show.

In an earlier article I did on Rajo for Preview’s December 2007 issue, he showed me a letter written to him by Bea Valdes. One thing I remember clearly was how she gushed about these beautiful beaded pants from one of his shows, saying that once she tried them on, she simply couldn’t take them off. Tonight he showed a variety of beaded pants that made me understand all the more why she was so taken by them. They’re really gorgeous and any woman who has the confidence, and the legs!, to pull it off should certainly hie over to House of Laurel to snag a pair.

I liked the little touches of his personality that I saw in the show.

The extra-large, black, abanicos three models used were exactly like the one he carries with him at all times, like a boy scout. (Let me tell you it has kept all of us cool in many a make-up melting situation.)

The appearance of model Melissa Frye in a jeweled halter, feathered capelet, and high-waisted, skirt-like trousers called to mind one of Rajo’s sketches. (Pose and all!) How’s that for actualizing what’s on paper?

I liked how his sewers, cutters, and beaders joined him on staged for the final bow.

I liked how large prints of his sketches, like portraits, decorated the foyer.

I liked how most of the women in attendance made an effort to wear a dress by Rajo.

(Special mention to the beautiful black and white vintage Rajo gowns worn by Apples Aberin-Sadhwani and Celine Lopez, as well as the lovely beaded bra lines on the gowns of Solea‘s Emi Jorge, and Ruffa Guttierez.)

I guess you could say it’s my turn to gush.

As someone who’s been following his preparations since June, It would be safe for me to say that the night turned out to be everything he planned and more.

Congratulations Rajo!
