Charina’s new ‘do

Friday, December 19th, 2008

L-R: Charina’s cool new crop; her old bombshell waves.

Charina Sarte showed up at the Style Bible Trunk Show sporting a new look. I think her new cut looks fresh and hip, and it definitely works well with her line of resort-inspired Holiday Collection.

First Thandie and now Charina. It’s high time I head to the salon.

They’re Engaged

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Surprise, surprise! Model and local rock royalty Sanya Smith is engaged to her beau, former MTV VJ John Joe Joseph. They’ve even got matching “engagement tattoos” to prove it.

Congratulations guys!

Thandie Wannabe

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I watched Rock n Rolla the other day. So good! It’s the latest from Guy Richie, and it’s undoubtedly the best fun I’ve had in a movie in a very long time.

So apart from crushing on Mark Strong, aka Archy in the film, (He’s got to be the new Andy Garcia. He was also in Body of Lies.) I fell in love with Thandie Newton‘s wardrobe.

Figure-skimming, power shift dresses that made me think of Roland Mouret‘s tailored womanliness. Throw in Louboutins and stolen money stashed in a Louis Vuitton bag and this gangster movie gets movie style points.

Now I’m thinking of getting my hair lopped off into a neat little bob, just like Thandie’s.

Teehee!

Repeat the Sounding Joy

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

And what sound is that? The sound of yet another freebie, obvs. Well… not exactly. A minimum purchase of P3k of Lancôme prodz is mandatory, but a “special Magnifique” surprise (ooh…) apparently awaits each day’s first 10 customers at the Greenbelt 5 boutique. Promo’s only for this weekend, December 19th-21st, though, so think of ‘em when you’re in a superdooper last-minute shopping funk.

P.S. They also sell GC’s! Woot woot, lazy shoppers!

Bag It

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

back bag with purchaseLauderers listen up: ringing up your penultimate Estée must-haves this Friday, December 19th, onwards gets you a black braided strap tote for free (yup, you heard me) if your purchases amount to P5,000. The counter’s only generous up to January 31st, 2009, though, so get crackin’.

The Style Bible Trunk Show

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Finally, our first-ever Trunk Show is actually happening this Saturday at the Columbus room of the Discovery Suites. (Click here for more details.) 9:00am to 4:00pm stop by and shop, shop, shop!

So i was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the goods. Here’s what I’m excited to see up close and personal:

The Bags

Tiramisu‘s heart purse.

The Aranaz petal clutch. Love!

An earthy, tribal print hobo from Cathy.

The Clothes

Moonshine

Moonshine‘s bustier dresses.

I love looking at them. I’ve been seeing bustiers and sweetheart necklines around too.

Divine Lee at the Folded & Hung Streetcast Act 2 show.

Amanda Griffin-Jacob at the Rajo Red! Gala.

Tina Arguelles at the U-Boat Launch.

Dia Lacaba at the Shu Uemura boutique opening.

I’m still deciding if I can pull it off. Only way to find out is to try it on, I guess.

Charina Sarte

Charina Sarte‘s slippery(-looking) silver dress.

It makes me think of the tulle Lanvin dress that Natalie Portman wore to the Oscars in 2003.

Only the Lanvin is made in a soft, princess-y tulle and Charina’s is all slick and updated for today. (It’s also got her stamp of sexiness all over it.)

Rajo Laurel

I’ve been in love with this sequined frock ever since I saw Sam Laurel wearing the black version of this dress at Rajo’s Grey Goose Party. It really hit’s my 20s sweet spot.

I like this little brocade short suit as well. Cute! Especially with the right pair of flats. Maybe the Steve Madden ones I’ve been eyeing, just to keep it all understated.

photos from www.style.com

Though I’m still of the mind-set that brocade looks beautiful embellished with jewels. Flats similar to these from Prada‘s S/S 2003 collection (probably one of my favorite collections by the designer, EVER!) should compliment Rajo’s light suit nicely.

Molako

This mini-dress looks like a cool vintage piece that you can get minus the actual effort of having to thrift.

Note: If you’re a fan of www.seaofshoes.com.

I especially liked Molako‘s leggings with its leather-like, latex-y sheen.

I’m so behind on the whole leggings thing. I tend to get rebellious and resistant when everyone’s wearing something. I actually got my first recent pair (since the ones I had in the late 80s and early 90s) around July this year.

These are pretty cool though. Now I’m going through major leggings-envy.

Eunice has a pair.

Raya has a pair. (photo from her Chictopia Blog)

Natalia Vodianova has a pair! (photo from www.my.opera.com) Though this was actually taken a while back.

See! So lag! I still love the look though.

The Accessories

I love these new necklaces by Happy David. They’re dressy but they’d also look great with a simple, gray tee (which I’ll probably wear on lazy days with my new latex-y leggings!).

Anyhow, this is just a glance over what’s in store for Saturday so I do hope you all come by to shop with us. The first 100 shoppers get free (reusable) shopping bags from Style Bible and free perfume samples too!

Come and shop! See you there!

Killer Curves Ahead

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

killer curves aheadIt may be like closing (or opening) the gates after the horses have run off, since we’re all pretty much majorly girl-crushing on Olga Kurylenko by now. Obvs it was just an amount of time before beauty company execs bottled all that Bond Girl charisma and sold it as a sex elixir (a.k.a. fragrance) for aspiring leading lady sexpots around the world.

What piqued my interest, though, wasn’t that the scent was actually quite wearable (it is) or that it was, indeed, lust in a flask (a fruity-floral musk? Oy vay, mere males… watch out).  What did it, though, was that they actually chose the otherwise girl-next-door-ish — even virginal – Gemma Arterton, the staid redhead Agent Fields in Quantum of Solace, as the face of Avon‘s Bond Girl 007 EDT. I suppose all that wholesomeness was merely for the part, ’cause as you can see here, she’s mos def got the whole femme fatale, empowered-smolder thing down pat. Or maybe they actually banked on her whole lady-child appeal. Regardless: Bond Girls really are best as brunettes, non?

Oh, while you’re at it, take a whiff of the fragrance, which retails at P1229 for 50ml, through www.avon.com.ph. See what all the fuss is about, since apparently our girl Olga can’t stop pimping the juice as well.

Oops!

Monday, December 8th, 2008

So I dropped by the Team Manila shop in Power Plant yesterday to try and get my hands on one of the tees I was talking about in my previous post. They’re not available yet but you can reserve one already if you’re interested.

Check the Trunk

Monday, December 8th, 2008

old flames revisitedLike you needed another reason to visit our trunk show, but in the spirit of timely goodwill, I’ll give one more. Free samples of Ralph Lauren Romance Always Yours, the latest spin on their classic 1998 fragrance – also the brand’s way of celebrating Romance*‘s 10th year anniversary – are to be handed out to the day’s shoppers (yeah, you heard me: samples. The scent won’t be released till first quarter of ’09, so really, it’s basically a prime bragging-right moment).

*Personally, I kind of have a private affair with the original scent; they say every time you sniff it you get reminded of your first brushes of love (Ed’s note: not so much - eek). My diplomatic answer is, it brings me back to the glory days of college, where *brace yourselves* the possibilites were literally endless. Oh, post-millennial optimism… Whatevs: the concentrated chypre (read: SHEE-pruh, or an “earthier” take) on the scent is still, in a word, irresistible. It’s soft, powdery and sweet without being cloying; it is, in fact, even prettier than the original. Couldn’t stop sniffing my wrists after trying it, for serious. No flashbacks here; IMHO, it’s love, revamped. No angsty late ’90s romantic clichés at all.

Rafe + Team Manila for Tapulanga Foundation

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Thanks for the heads-up Louis (Claparols)!

Rafē Totengco teamed up with Team Manila creating a tee for Charity. (Couldn’t resist throwing in a rhyme.)

Spotted in Marie Claire Magazine.

The Tapulanga Foundation is a non-profit org that provides educational scholarships, health-care and microcredit assistance for poor communities in Negros Occidental (where the NYC-based accessories designer is actually from).

The hip t-shirt is available at Team Manila stores nationwide (head to the Archaeology section in Power Plant Mall or the newly opened shop in Mall of Asia) and the Rafē New York boutique in Greenbelt 5.

For P1500, you get a cool designer tee and make a charitable donation to boot. US residents can get it for $35 each directly from Tapulanga Foundation (contact them at info@tapulanga.org or go to our website at www.tapulanga.org).

This is the second tee that Rafē has designed for charity. This Limited Edition tee above ($50) was specially produced for the opening of Harvey Nichols in Jakarta. It was released at the luxury boutique in September 2008. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this shirt will be donated to the Green Peace Foundation.

I love charitable tie-ups. At least you won’t feel so guilty about spending on something stylish.

Show some support!
