Bandage at its Best

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Rumor has it, bandage dresses actually whittle your figure into shape instead of showing off every bulge as we all fear. One thing’s for sure, they’re undeniably sexy.

It’s probably why both Ornusa Cadness (photo taken at the Prive Series featuring Charina Sarte) and Phoemela Barranda (photo from the opening of Club LAX) both got their hands on Charina Sarte‘s chocolate and black banded number.

Look at how amazing Vina Morales looks in this little black bandage dress by Jun Escario. To think she had just given birth three weeks before this photo was taken.

Of course nothing beats the designs of the master himself. Look who I’ve spotted wearing Herve Leger.

Ok maybe you need to be as fat-free as Leica Carpo to pull this off.

Because of this gorgeous, strapless wonder, Wendy Puyat won Style Star and was featured on Preview magazine’s Best-Dressed page.

Divine Lee wore an Herve Leger to the Chinese New Year party at Embassy Superclub.

While it was too crowded to get a full-body photo of her, this is what the dress looked like. (Photo from net-a-porter.com.)

Lastly, I love Charina Sarte‘s indigo and white Herve Leger. It’s totally bombshell but still sophisticated.

Unfortunately, I haven’t really found anything in the ready-to-wear racks but you can always have it custom-made.

Spotted this in the forums though:

Fashion_md says she found this navy and gray dress in SM. What a steal! I think I’m going to mozy on over and have a look myself.

Have you found any bandage dresses? Let me know :)

Meet Coke Light’s Passionistas

Monday, May 25th, 2009

No, I don’t have F and P syndrome.

Coca-Cola Light has coined this new term as a toast to six women of passion who have excelled in their respective fields and made a difference in society. The brand has partnered up with each of these ladies donating a whopping P100,000 to their chosen causes and advocacies.

Coca-Cola Light’s Passionistas: Mons Romulo-Tantoco, Teresa Herrera, Agot Isidro-Sandejas, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, and Dr. Aivee Aguilar-Teo stand by the pledge wall.

Kris Aquino attended the press conference clad in Coke Light colors in a dress custom made by Joey Samson.  Her chosen advocacy, World Vision, is an organization whose mission is to uplift the lives of children. She has already actively sponsored children through the organization for several years now on a personal level and is thankful for the additional support and publicity this campaign will bring to the cause.

Tessa Prieto-Valdes has been an active supporter of the Philippine National Red Cross. Just last year she organized a photo exhibit and partnered up with Rajo Laurel for his gala show to create greater awareness and raise funds for the group.

Agot Isidro-Sandejas chose to support the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). The group helps to rehabilitate strays and abused animals and provide good homes for them.

It seems it’s all about balance and harmony for model/TV host/ yogini Teresa Herrera, who chose to support Trees for the Future. This non-profit org seeks to promote agroforestry (Read: plant more trees to replenish the diminishing resource) through various projects and individuals.

Columnist Mons Romulo-Tantoco has given her support to the Pink for Life Foundation. The non-profit organization provides assistance and information to breast cancer patients, currently the most prevalent type of cancer afflicting both sexes.

Dermatologist to the stars, Dr. Aivee Aguilar-Teo is channeling her efforts towards assisting the Manila Boystown. The government-run complex provides shelter and care for Manila’s abandoned, forgotten, and voluntarily surrendered children, teenagers, and senior citizens.

By teaming up with these six successful women and their chosen causes Coke Light aims to show that even women with so much going on in their careers and personal lives can still take the time out to give back. It shouldn’t be so difficult for us to do the same.

The Juice Is Worth the Squeeze

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

My friends from Juicy clued me in to this here shebang:

Their fragrance (oh, you know, the one that was inspired by Marie Antoinette débutantes and pink French macaroons) finally, qu’est-ce que ça veut dire, drops today, in Rustan’s Makati. Special surprises await those who purchase bright and early, so get to it!

Kate’s Giving Her Clothes Away

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

So what happens when this teeny designer moves up a size from double zero to (shock!) a size 0-2. She’s still as svelte as ever but Kate admits that a chunk of her self-designed wardrobe no longer fits her.

All you lucky twig thin fashionistas have a chance to score some of Kate’s pre-loved outfits. Just email me your name, age, and why you’d love to own one of these pieces at stylebible@stylebible.ph and Kate will pick the lucky entries.

I’ll post pics of some of the outfits soon.

Cheers!

To Dye For

Monday, May 11th, 2009

This weekend I finally got to indulge in a secret obsession: tie dye. I have amassed quite the collection throughout the years–indeed, I came of age in the Benetton/Esprit era and have embraced the trend, albeit too enthusiastically, the first time it came around. As fate would have it, my old pieces have not seen the light of day since, well, Courtney Love became a widow; the few useables that remained, past their prime and, therefore, so loved and worn were they, saw the natural progression to house clothes.

Thankfully, we have fierce fashion bloggers like Rumi that show the rest of the world exactly how to incorporate the glamour back into these grungy pieces.  I love how she finds the perfect balance between guy-hot and girl-hot into an ensemble, and no matter how “street” she looks, it’s never sloppy.

I found a tank/dress in Zara that best approximated the ’09 version of tie dye: super-soft, I-wanna-die-in-this cotton, and with a blue and white scheme and slightly ombré-d process, it was stylishly modern. Coupled with sleek basics and predatory heels, it zoomed past its granola, rasta appeal and went straight to comfy and fashion-forward… the combo of my dreams.

Oh, and in true beauty/fashion symbiosis, guess what’s coming up for M.A.C. this July?

M.A.C. Cosmetics Colour Craft is blowing up this July ’09, and it’s. gonna. be. big. How do I know? Because lately every gal and her uncle is a sucker for that painterly, neon, so-retro-it’s-new-again OTT thing (just check out Preview’s May cover girl Ruffa). Jackson Pollock would be so proud, non?

Obviously, the trick is in trying to use all the shades while preserving the original pattern in all its juiciness. Or maybe we can all buy doubles and have one each for play and display! Yay! Either way, this is me, completely giddy with excitement. Who knew double-dipping would see the light again? What’s next, My Little Pony hair mascara or a Kelly Taylor-inspired fragrance? (I can dream.).

Jenni Needs Peeps

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Was chatting with Jenni Epperson for a bit yesterday at the launch of Glam Rock watches, and she told me about her fun little project.

www.jenniepperson.com

Last April 26, she made a post on her site about available slots for summer on-the-job trainees. The response was so overwhelming (300 applied!) that she thought she’d spin it into something a little more exciting–Stylista style.

She and her newly promoted style associate (from her original post as “Toy Assistant,” in Jenni’s words) Nina Estacio are cooking up challenges. Think sorting through stacks of decades worth of Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, and the like to find that one article that Jenni needs.

Of course, all the nail-biting and outfit-rumpling effort will be rewarded with equally nice things like cozy lunches at Bizu or the chance to meet some of Jenni’s celebrity clients like KC Concepcion.

Tune in to her site for regular updates, or just to check out the comic situational photos she plans to post.

Cheers!

P.S.

Thanks mucho for the lipstick pen, Jenni! Really love it :)

Isn’t it adorable?

Charina and Divine Speak Greek.

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This is funny. Bernice (henceforth known as Biba), had to accost these two women in the Ladies to film them (not so) quietly.

Member’s Only was packed and buzzing last April 29 when Charina Sarte played hostess at the Fashion Series. Snaps for Biba for getting these quick interviews in.

I like how Charina gave a fresh take to this designer favorite. (It seems godess dresses have become a style staple, yes?) I’ve always liked the idea of weighing down soft, frothy fabrics with earthy leather. Sometimes, things that are too too pretty need a little toughening up.

The leather harnesses were really sexy. I’d probably wear one similar to Cheryl‘s since it doesn’t accentuate the bust area as much. I like keeping the girls low-key.

Divine is probably one of the bigger supporters of our local designers right now. It’s really great. I actually kidded her that night, asking if every designer of the Member’s Only Fashion Series asked her to be their muse. She laughed with me saying she was actually a bit shy about being asked so much.

Patrice will be hosting tomorrow night. Can’t wait!
