The Hair That Made History

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Now that another great has left us, we’re left to wax nostalgic with how she touched our lives. And we all know that even more iconic than the great Farrah Fawcett (1947-2009) was, yes, that hair. Eclipsing even the fame of Charlie’s Angels and that famous red bikini poster that opened up worlds to many a high school boy, her Farrah flip remains to be one of the most influential and recognizable hairstyles in history, literally making waves since the disco era to modern pop culture.

With that, we pay homage. Peace out Farrah, our favorite Angel. Stay groovy.

Pop culture figures like Paris Hilton keep the flip alive. credit: usmagazine.com

With her Cal-gal tan, beaming smile, surfer girl sex appeal and of course that hair, Farrah was the quintessential girl of the ’70s. Her famous poster now hangs at the Smithsonian. credit: tv.yahoo.com

Got this in the mail today:

Hi Isha!

We have just released Gap’s exclusive CFDA/Vogue Design Editions apparel in our local stores – this year, Gap has teamed up with designers Vena Cava and Alexander Wang to rework the classic khaki. Items will be available in select stores for a limited time only. We hope to see you soon!

Good thing Eunice and I are lunching in Shang today. Will be swinging by the store to have a look. The collection is available at Gap in Bonifacio High Street, Shangri-La Plaza, Mall of Asia, and Glorietta.

Hurry, hurry!

Little Miss Dress Up Goes International

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Looks like Style Bible’s winning wardrobe blogger is getting more worldwide (web) attention. Got the link to this article from Rosanna Aranaz‘ proud big sister, designer Amina Aranaz-Alunan.

Glamour.com‘s Tracey Lomrantz, who writes the webzine’s style blog Slaves to Fashion, featured Rosanna together with two other wardrobe bloggers to illustrate the how-tos of pattern-mixing. Based on the comment tally, reader’s like her style best. Click here to see the article.

Congratulations Little Miss Dress Up!

Cool Shelter

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Found the prettiest payongs on display at AC +632 in Greenbelt 5.

I always love their window display. It’s impossible for me to not stop and have a closer look when I walk by.

This Chantal Thomas umbrella has a classic black outer surface but is all pink and lace beneath. It’s so lovely. (About P9000)

I didn’t even know Jean Paul Gaultier had umbrellas. Isn’t the pirate print of this square shaped umbrella great? It would make a great scarf too! (About P9000)

The next window displayed a beautiful JPG leather umbrella (about P15,000) that I wouldn’t dare take out in the rain, together with a folding umbrella with a skull handle (about P5000), which I adore.

They say it’s bad luck to open an umbrella indoors but it’s pieces like these that make you want to ignore the rule and just put them on display.

Expect the Unexpected

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Covergirl and Olay have launched a new foundation-moisturizer hybrid, and more revolutionary than the cream-to-liquid, super innovative mix (it’s supposed to “float over lines,” filling them in and smoothing skin’s surface) is its endorser: Ellen DeGeneres was personally handpicked as their celeb spokesperson due to her smart, confident and down-to-earth appeal, which mimics the brands’ philosophies.

It’s Ellen’s first beauty endorsement ever, and some might think it’s a bit of an awkward pairing–beauty is a serious business, and Ellen’s certainly a non-traditional choice for a makeup image model, making it a bit of a gamble. Not because of her age or sexuality, but mainly because, well, she’s barely seen in makeup at all; even on her daytime talk show the face is always, always nude, almost buff. But then maybe that’s the point: Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation does claim to smooth the years off your face for a relaxed, natural look–something that the 51-year-old comedienne does have down pat.

Laughter may cause wrinkles, but if it makes me look as fresh-faced as Ellen in my fifties, then maybe there is something to it being the best medicine, after all.

YouTubing: About Marc Jacobs

Monday, June 1st, 2009

So that’s what Anna Wintour sounds like. I think she doesn’t sound as intimidating as she looks. It must be really cool to be Marc Jacobs.
