F-Stop Blues

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Yesterday the Summit girls had the opportunity to be the first audiences to the Olay-sponsored F reunion talk, where the ladies of the popular late ’90s fashion, travel and lifestyle show were back on the same couch again after 11 years. Daphne Oseña-Paez, Angel Aquino and Cher Calvin, former F hosts, real-life friends and most recently, Olay’s newest beauty spokeswomen, chatted with us and offered a glimpse into their present lives and filled in the gaps since their gig more than a decade ago.

Being one of the show’s loyal viewers, I couldn’t help but get a bit nostalgic myself; when they introduced themselves, inadvertently in the order and manner they used to do on the show, we all felt that inner collective awww, only experienced by those who fondly look back on some really awesome memories.

Yesterday’s casual meeting marked the actual first time they’ve all seen each other (Cher was down with a fever the first two days she came to Manila), so before it formally started, a lot of LOL-ing over old albums–and past fashion missteps–took place. Then an earnest admission came, that aside from sunbathing, which both Daphne and Angel agreed was their biggest beauty mistake, the Cher-initiated “skirt over pants” phase was certainly the most hilarious.

Now all settled down and successful–Daphne a producer and host of home and lifestyle show Urban Zone, Angel an iconic model and host, and Cher, an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist in the U.S.–the girls now reunite years later and share their winning stories as part of being Olay’s brand ambassadresses. Fans and curious cats should make a note to catch the special F reunion show, airing September 27th, 10pm on ABS-CBN, to catch up on the golden times of local beauty, fashion, travel and lifestyle with these lovely ladies.

PUT A RING ON IT

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Guess what we got our lovely little fingers on? PYLONES rings! These cutesy little bands come with glass bubbles (which are hand-blown by expert artisans) that house bright-colored liquids. We love how the candy-hued liquid swishes and swirls with our every move. Too too cute!

See these pop art rings up close and personal at the ACCESSORY LAB, at the Powerplant Mall. Jump to the Accessory Lab website for more details.

Pitoy’s National Artist Award held by the Supreme Court

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

The Supreme Court has responded to the mass uproar over the National Artist Awards and it seems that not just one but four nomineees are in question, among them this year’s nominee for fashion design Jose “Pitoy” Moreno.

An article from spot.ph reads:

“Named in the petition are President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, and the four nominees under question: Cecille Guidote Alvarez (theater), Magno Jose Carlo Caparas (visual arts and film), Jose Moreno (fashion design), and Francisco Mañosa (architecture). The three other nominees not under question are Lazaro Francisco (literature), Manuel Conde (film and broadcast) and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz (visual arts, painting, sculpture, and mixed media), reports GMANews.TV.”

Fashion Confusion: American Apparel

Monday, August 17th, 2009

While I usually do appreciate American Apparel‘s brand of cheeky basics, this particular piece has me stumped.

Sheer Luxe Cut Out Pantyhose modeled by no less than adult film star Sasha Grey.

I don’t really understand the logic of this one. Even if it’s meant to be sexy, won’t it be covered up beneath your clothing? Maybe it’s meant to make using the little girl’s room much easier; it does, however, appear to have a built-in thong too.

I don’t think I’d pay $28 to have my bottom hang out of my hose. Don’t most women want this area given some extra support?

I suppose it’s all in the stance you take (this rear end photo is perhaps the most flattering).

My take on it is negative; this will definitely stay out of my shopping cart.

What do you think?

Help the Babies, Buy a Bag

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Cecile Zamora and Ingrid Go are using their online pull for a great cause.

In a recent blog entry from Cecile she writes, “For some time now, Ingrid and I have been talking about raising money for Fabella Hospital. My goal is to buy a hospital-grade breastpump, while Ingrid was talking about buying baby bassinets, since currently there is a serious bassinet shortage in there.

I first learned about its existence when my friend Jun-Jun sent me this link where I found these photos by Jorem and Sheila Catilo. They are heart-wrenching, but please take time out to view them. The photos tell a story and that is, these people need our help.”

As of today, she has already received many wonderful donations via PayPal. Click on the link above to learn more about making a donation.

Meanwhile, Ingrid is auctioning off a prized piece from her personal bag collection to raise funds for the hospital. Click here to learn more about the Hermes Victoria that is up for auction. According to Cecile’s entry on August 12, the bidding was already up to P50,000. The bag’s original value is about P200,000.

Once you learn more about this cause, I’m sure you’ll want to help, with or without a bag in exchange.
