HELP TYPHOON ONDOY VICTIMS!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

To call what happened over the weekend a tragedy would be a tremendous understatement. Lives were lost, families were displaced, homes were torn apart.

It is in these times of calamity that the call for unity MUST be heard and answered. Let us do ALL WE CAN to help those affected by the floods.  Volunteer, donate relief goods, pray- whatever way or form, help is needed and will be very much appreciated.

Head Over Heels

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I met Lally Dizon a year ago when I interviewed her for an article we did featuring her bags and her shop, Vintage Restore. Since then, I could already spot an LD bag at parties and events. I like the way she mixes the different kinds of leather—all fine leather, mind you—and swanky hardware details. I have also been a fan of the bags’ impeccable stitching. Imagine my delight when she announced a few weeks ago that she was launching a footwear line.

Lally finally unveiled her killer shoes last Friday, September 28, 2009, during the fourth anniversary of Doña Consolacion Building (where Vintage Restore is). At first glance, the LD shoes were already gorgeous and captivating (in a love-at-first-sight kind of way). The longer you look at them, the more you just want to take them home.

For now, Lally has four designs which come in two colors each. And like her equally gorgeous bags, you can have the shoes custom-made. And while you’re there, why don’t you get a bag to match your shoes? :)

Dennis Lustico’s First Gala

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Dennis Lustico is excited and busier than ever preparing for his first gala show on October 1, 2009 entitled, “Lustico: A Fashion Presentation.” He’s christened the 40-piece collection “The Legionnaire,” taking inspiration from early Anglo-Gallic-Roman gallantry, particularly the Legion D’Honneur French chivalry order established by Napoleon Bonaparte in the 1800s.

Annie Liebowitz may lose the rights to her photos.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Was a bit shocked upon hearing this bit of news on the BBC last night.

Those well-versed in Vogue and Vanity Fair will instantly recognize her distinct lighting style and her poignant portraits of celebrities, political figures, and even royalty. (One of her most famous photos is one of John Lennon and Yoko Ono shot just 5 hours before he was assasinated; another, the nude portrait of a very pregnant Demi Moore for the cover of Vanity Fair; and more recently, the cloth clad photo of teen star Miley Cyrus that had everyone up in arms.)

According to the BBC write-up, “In 2008 she consolidated her debts with Art Capital Group using her work and properties as collateral. If she files for bankruptcy, she could lose both.” She’s now being sued for breach of contract on this $24 million loan and may ultimately lose the rights to her photos (past, present, and future; her archive is worth about $50million) if things are not settled by the Tuesday deadline.

What a shame to lose such a brilliant life’s work.

Fashion Fever

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

So what does it take to be as stylish as the Preview team?

If you were there at Power Plant Mall’s Be Scene Fashion Registry, you’ll know that fashion fever is one of the answers. Just a few days before September rolled around, shoppers were greeted by the larger than life image of Preview magazine’s fashion issue, with pretty Kim Chiu looking fiercer than we ever saw her on the cover.

Pretty soon, the area was teeming with black-clad fashionistas who all flocked to the area for the last day of the fashion registry. Thanks to the genius of the Preview team and visual designer Dustin Reyes, the best fashion picks from Archaeology came alive with Madam Maxine’s travel through time! From 15th century Rome, to Paris in the ’70s, to Manila circa 2000, Preview’s alter ego showcased the top pieces from Archaeology’s stores. Check out a few of fashion editor Liz Uy‘s prized picks below:

London, 1902: A dress from Anthology

London, 1902: A dress from Anthology.

France, 1700: A glittery necklace from Accessory Lab.

Germany, 1940: A black wrap and booties from Bayo.

Rome, 1600: A beige dress from Ilaya.

Manila, 2000: A fur bag and fierce boots from Charles & Keith.

American South, 1920s: pearls, gold chains, and feathers from Cru.

Los Angeles, 1950: A sequined black dress from Cru.

Paris, 1970: A floral dress from Kashieca.

America, 1990: black pants and a clutch from Esprit.

With such a delectable array to choose from, hopeful guests turned in their wish lists of 10 pieces from Preview’s picks. But of course, there can only be one winner, and she ended up hauling every single item on her wish list home!
