CRAZY Shoes at Bench Uncut

Naturally, all eyes were on the torsos of the beautiful bodies that graced the Bench Uncut fashion show last July 2. But being the shoe-holics that we are, we made sure to pay due attention to the feet of the models and the shoes they were strutting in.

Most of the female runway models and stars sashayed down the catwalk in sexy yet generally safe stilettos or platforms, while some of the male models worked it in leather boots and even a white pair of gladiator sandals. Some, on the other hand, opted to go bedroom barefoot. But when the third group (the Brazil-themed one) of the four-set show made their appearance on the runway, our shoe radar went abuzz.

Look at those sky-high platforms!

A few models teetered down the runway in these shockingly high, intricately carved shoe-sculptures!

We found out after the show that the carved platform wedges were collaborated on by accessory designer Dennis Celestial and shoemaker Maco Custodio. Dennis created the astounding wedges, while Maco finished them off by adding foot straps to make them wearable.

Here's Maco working on one of the pairs. He stained the sculptures, added the gold embellishments, as well as the foot straps.

The elephants are adorable! Note their matching anklets.

Here they are on a model. I love how it seems like the elephants are carrying her on their backs—backwards!

This pair is my favorite! It features a lion, a horse, and a rhino. Ferocious!

Maco also custom made other footwear for the show, such as the multicolored slippers and sneakers of some of the male models, as well as Kim Chiu’s ultra sexy knee-high silver platforms.

Can’t help but wonder if the Dennis + Maco shoes are gonna be up for sale. I’m not gonna wear them myself (I am quite prone to vertigo, haha), but I’m pretty sure a lot of people out there would want them! Or at least have street-friendly versions made. :)
