F-Stop Blues

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Yesterday the Summit girls had the opportunity to be the first audiences to the Olay-sponsored F reunion talk, where the ladies of the popular late ’90s fashion, travel and lifestyle show were back on the same couch again after 11 years. Daphne Oseña-Paez, Angel Aquino and Cher Calvin, former F hosts, real-life friends and most recently, Olay’s newest beauty spokeswomen, chatted with us and offered a glimpse into their present lives and filled in the gaps since their gig more than a decade ago.

Being one of the show’s loyal viewers, I couldn’t help but get a bit nostalgic myself; when they introduced themselves, inadvertently in the order and manner they used to do on the show, we all felt that inner collective awww, only experienced by those who fondly look back on some really awesome memories.

Yesterday’s casual meeting marked the actual first time they’ve all seen each other (Cher was down with a fever the first two days she came to Manila), so before it formally started, a lot of LOL-ing over old albums–and past fashion missteps–took place. Then an earnest admission came, that aside from sunbathing, which both Daphne and Angel agreed was their biggest beauty mistake, the Cher-initiated “skirt over pants” phase was certainly the most hilarious.

Now all settled down and successful–Daphne a producer and host of home and lifestyle show Urban Zone, Angel an iconic model and host, and Cher, an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist in the U.S.–the girls now reunite years later and share their winning stories as part of being Olay’s brand ambassadresses. Fans and curious cats should make a note to catch the special F reunion show, airing September 27th, 10pm on ABS-CBN, to catch up on the golden times of local beauty, fashion, travel and lifestyle with these lovely ladies.

Expect the Unexpected

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Covergirl and Olay have launched a new foundation-moisturizer hybrid, and more revolutionary than the cream-to-liquid, super innovative mix (it’s supposed to “float over lines,” filling them in and smoothing skin’s surface) is its endorser: Ellen DeGeneres was personally handpicked as their celeb spokesperson due to her smart, confident and down-to-earth appeal, which mimics the brands’ philosophies.

It’s Ellen’s first beauty endorsement ever, and some might think it’s a bit of an awkward pairing–beauty is a serious business, and Ellen’s certainly a non-traditional choice for a makeup image model, making it a bit of a gamble. Not because of her age or sexuality, but mainly because, well, she’s barely seen in makeup at all; even on her daytime talk show the face is always, always nude, almost buff. But then maybe that’s the point: Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation does claim to smooth the years off your face for a relaxed, natural look–something that the 51-year-old comedienne does have down pat.

Laughter may cause wrinkles, but if it makes me look as fresh-faced as Ellen in my fifties, then maybe there is something to it being the best medicine, after all.

The Rush

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

*Gasp*. Yes, it’s an update, folks. Blame the cuh-raziness of events these past two weeks. Which, unfortunately, has brought on Wave #2 of current Under Weather State, but I digress.

Last night was the official press launch of superstar anti-aging wonder line Olay Regenerist, and they finally unveiled their newest ambassadress. The first thing that came to mind when the lovely (and by lovely, I mean take-a-stab-at-my-self-esteem-why-don’t-you, even-more-ridiculously-stunning-in-person gorgeous) Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez took her place among the other Olay veterans like Daphne Oseña-Paez and Isabelle Daza was, “Took them long enough!” ‘Cause seriously, if she doesn’t convince you to have what she’s having, then no one else will.

Buzz-worthy Regenerist is supposed to mimic — if not surpass — the effects of having laser treatments on your face. Big words? Then keep in touch, girls, for we shall dissect it in next week’s beauty feature. In the meantime, see you in the forums, and let’s discuss.
