Fabrics for Rajo Red

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Week two of production: This week I was hoping to add a bit of color to the collection!  I have always leaned towards shiny, metallic materials.  I found these beautiful laminated linen fabrics in gold/bronze and gold/putty.   I love how it’s raw and elegant at the same time.

I am thinking of pairing it with sheaths that are fully beaded with bronze chips on a bead of gold beaded chiffon. I am thinking luxury to the highest level!

LOL!

Hairstyle Meeting for Rajo Red!

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Today was super exciting!  Nelson Cruz of Tony & Guy came over for a meeting!  I have to let you know that the man is a GENIUS with hair! He has probably won all the hair awards there is!  He is the Rock Star of hair design!  (I also have the honor of having him cut my hair. Teehee!)

I mentioned to him sometime ago about my show and he said yes!  I was so happy I leapt off my feet and almost hugged him, wet from the shampoo bowl!

Today he took time off from his super busy schedule and came over to look at some of the clothes for the show. He also took a peek at the mood boards!  He then proceeded to show me his own studies. I loved  them instantly!  The drama of it all gave me fashion shivers!

We have a meeting on Tuesday with the wig people—Bergman Hair Systems (through Lutz Kunack) as they are sponsoring the hair pieces!I am soooooooooo lucky!

We both decided that there should be no color just black or brown as the hair already will be so sculptural!  Since I plan to do 45 to 50 looks, there will be a few editorial pieces and there will be the runway girls!  The editorial girls are those major numbers that will blow everyone’s mind while the runway girls are the ones who revolve and change.  We are still deciding on what to do but these are the studies.  The next step is to try them out and then decide which are feasible!

Happy weekend!

I heard about the move of the Preview “Green” ball! I think it’s not so bad. I am certain that the Preview army will be if full force and in finer form…meaning more time to perfect their outfits and more time think about the styling! LOL!

This is a photo of this new piece I am making. It’s this sculptural treatment in tulle and nylon boning. I think its going to be breathtaking! I am thinking of it as a cocoon, like coat with a really interesting body suit.

Leica, my muse (LOL!) and lovely friend dropped by and whipped it on! Again,  it’s important that you bounce of ideas with someone you trust and respect. I love Leica as she is experimental and her aesthetic is very global.  She got me thinking that everything I do should be light!  That is one main difference with clothes as it should feel good on you. I wanted this to feel like air!  I can’t wait to finish it!

I do not know what to call it but it reminds me of the paper lanterns of Japan mixed with the crinolines of the Elizabethan period. So a cross between that!

Reworking a Kimono

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Good Morning!  I came into work today at 7am!

I had a dream! Victorian dolls coming to life! Perhaps because Maike Evers came to the shop last night to buy a dress and I never really met her till then.  She is stunning!  I remembered her in the Victorian dolls editorial June 2008!  I asked if she was willing to model in the show.  Apparently, she has never done ramp and I told her to think about it.  LOL!  I am keeping my fingers crossed that she says yes!

In these photos are Yoya and Angel!  He is the one who did most of the pieces in my 2001 show!  He is very talented. Here we are discussing this evening gown made from a vintage Kimono that I bought in Kyoto several years ago.  I want to showcase the cranes when the model walks. I want it soft but sculptural at the same time. I am thinking of adding some more embroidery…still not sure.  I do like the way it cascades on the side.

I am excited for tonight as I am going to have dinner with Robby Carmona! He is directing my show and we will surely end up discussing the show!

Have a fun weekend!

Our Second Piece

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

This blogging thing is really cool! I get to see the idea develop and sending it to you makes it seem to be more clear.

In the Photo is Rodel and Yoya Gueco. Yoya is my design assistant!  I hate that word—Assistant—but  she really is such an important person in my team because she is a woman!  She can “feel” the clothes while I can only visualize it. (I am so lucky to be surrounded by women because they put a real point of view to my ideas.)

Here they are working on my second piece for the collection! It’s a pleated cocktail dress! We were inspired by a tuxedo shirt but we’re taking it to a different level. We are discussing how we can make a random pattern but with thought!  We will be beading this with glass tubes from Swarovski.  I want Jasmine (Maierhoffer) to wear this.

I have never worked with her and I really want to. She is so beautiful!

Thinking of having some booties made for this but still not sure?  Hmmmm…Foot wear is another game altogether! I have to sit with Emi Jorge of Solea soon…I hope she says yes to make my shoes!

That is all for now!

Draping Studies

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

One of the things I love to do is draping!  You see this in my work often. Sometimes I drape on the fitting form, however my most favorite form of draping is on a live person!  You instantly get a feel of the fabric and how it reacts to the body.  I sent you two images that I did for my research for this collection!  This process is really exciting as you see the results in your head live!

The First Piece

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

This is the first piece of the collection! I am christening it the Phalenopsis jacket! It is inspired by my favorite flower of all time! It sits on my desk everyday and I am in love with the way it looks so sensual. I am thinking of pairing this with a jumpsuit so it’s fresh and modern.

This is what you call a muslin – it’s the first pattern right after the paper pattern. It has shades of Imelda Cojuangco all over it! I think she is amazing! I am in love with the way she carries herself and the way she wears clothes! DRAMA!

Design Meeting

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

This is the photo of our first design meeting. In the photo is Venisse (the producer LOL!) That is Rodel to my right! My very talented cutter! I will be adding more photos of the team as the the show progresses.

The goal is to make 5 items a week, this seems too much so I might add another cutter to the program, his name is Angel! He did 60% of the “Optical Illusion” show in 2001! I will be showing you peice number one, its from the Organic series where we were inspired from foliage!

Please pardon me if I am slow at downloading the photos, this is all so new to me!

Mood Boards for Rajo Red!

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Attached are the mood boards for the show! I created several mood boards to depict the various themes that I will be having. If you look closely, these are themes that throughout my 15 years I have explored and cultivated. I realize that I have been inspired by the same stimuli over and over again, and I am constantly updating and improving this. Some of the sketches are from my notebooks that I have been doing for more that 3 decades now, and in a way, I am inspiring myself from my own set of archives.

Hugs!

PS: The themes are:

FILIPINO ETHNIC
