The Chanel Mobile Show!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Day 2 of New York was off to a fantastic start!  The sun was out, the air was crisp and it was just perfect!  We heard that there was this temporary mobile art installation show with Chanel in  Central Park and that was on top of my to-do list!

My sunshine friend Malu Gamboa walking along Park Ave. with NIX. Is this Chic or what?!

We walked to the park and asked for directions. We did not have any tickets but according to the kind guards, there was a good chance that we could wait in line on stand by and see the show.

Love the fact that even the guides and security were in Chanel!

I thought that we had to pay for us to see it, and  I was so happy that it was FREE! I love this city!  We were in line for an hour, we did not mind though as the weather was superb and we did our restaurant reservations while standing in line.

The space was designed by “LOLA” Karl’s favorite architect ZAHA HADID, I love her work and have seen several samples of her futuristic ovoidal creations!  I loved how it looked like a giant
space capsule/ pod.

When we got in we were given headsets and the sultry voice of french actress Jeanne Moreau spoke to us ( in the  super cool mini i-pods) and gave us instructions on when to stand and where to go.  I love the fact that she was our guide to this very elegant sound and light extravaganza!  She was the thread that linked  all the various artists from diverse nations such as Iran, Japan, India, China, Korea, France, Belgium,Russia and many more.

An adjacent building that holds special functions! I loved the mirrored walls reflecting the trees of Central Park!

I noticed that most of the art works had a voyeuristic approach to the way the art was viewed and experienced. They had several sexual themes hence  children under 16 are not allowed inside.

My favorite experience was that of Leandro Erlich of Argentina!  To quote the book/magazine that came with the mobile show….The piece is called “swimming pool.” It is a good example of the interpretative possibilities that this artist offers, the physical experience of objects is placed in doubt by devices that trick the eye.

We watched in a dark room a reflection of a building on a pool of water in a gutter and how this  changes from dusk till dawn and the weird feeling you get while looking inside windows.

It was a special experience and I am so full of creative energy now!  (The show only runs till the 9th of November.)

GOSSIP GIRL!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

When I am in New York I call on my sister Gela’s best friend PJ Pascual!  This guy is the sweetest person in this side of the world, he always takes me to the most fun parties!  At 7 PM he comes over and
invites us to a party at the new museum in SOHO.

When we get there Nix noticed that there were so many chic and hot people.  Nix’s face lit up when he saw Kelly Rutherford ( he plays Lily Van der Woodsen) from the super cool show GOSSIP GIRL!  We then asked if she could take a photo with us.  She was sooooo nice and she even spent a good time talking to us and was really pleasant!

Then we saw another beautiful girl with her sylist friend in tow.  Nix said that she too was in Gossip Girl.  Her name is Amanda Setton and she plays Penelope.  She was stunning and also so sweet and nice!

The Waldorf Experience!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Hi! We safely arrived in New York and the first thing that I felt was the biting cold! I loved it!

I arranged for a car to pick me and Nix up and take us to our hotel.  I normally stay with friends or family but since this would be Nix’s first time I wanted this to be textbook perfect! LOL!

I really believe that I am a very lucky person as when I checked in we had a room ready for us, this was a really good sign as rooms normally are given to you at like 3 in the afternoon and we checked in at like 9:30 AM!

We were happy with our room and began to freshen up.  A few minutes later a call came from the front desk and told us that we were upgraded to a suite!  I was like OMG!  We gathered our things and waited for the bell man to take us to our suite!

When he opened the door my mouth dropped!  It was one of the major suites in the hotel! Costing $2000 a day! It is around 500 square meters, with a kitchen, a sala, a big foyer, a huge bedrooom,  an amazing powder room, walk-in closet, and the most amazing views of Park Avenue!  I said a prayer and thanked GOD for my blessings!

Nix and I are staying for a week and we are loving it!  We feel like it was made for Marie Antoinette and I am planning to have a party filled with cupcakes and bubbly!  What a blessing indeed!  Will send you more photos soon!

A Sea of Food!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Nix and I were craving for some seafood and we made reservations at this super cool seafood place that just opened! It is called Anchor & Hope. (anchorandhopesf.com).

I think that it was probably our best meal in San Francisco!  I found the decor of the place refreshingly honest and it had quirky touches like eyeball lamps and painted piranhas on the walls.

The menu was tight and easy to navigate.  The staff was super efficient and nice. (We got in there at 7:30 PM and told them that we were catching a flight. They understood and had the service sped up and we were at the airport in nice time.

We had an array of great choices!  We had to try out the warm sea urchin with pureed potatoes!  I found the dish intriguing as they served this in the shell.

When it came it was kind of scary, but after the first taste I thought that it was sublime!  Velvety and rich. Decadent even! I loved the play of textures.

The warm sea urchin dish! FABULOUS!

Speaking of textures, we had the next appetizer called “angels on horseback.” It was oysters wrapped in bacon. It was so fantastic, I did not know how they kept the bacon crisp on the outside and the fresh miyagi oyster so succulent inside!  LOVED IT!

Angels on Horseback! HEAVENLY!

My main course was the spicy bouillabaisse which was hearty and had strong flavors, I loved the soup because it kept me warm in my heart and stomach.  A real comfort food!

GOOGLED!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

I went on a field trip the other day!  Leica invited me to visit her good friend Mireia at work.  Little did I know that Mireia works at Google! It was such a great experience!  I loved the fact that it felt like a really cool campus.

She printed out ID’s for all of us and then treated us to lunch!

Apart from all the amazing things Google does for their employees they feed them very well! Mireia told us that their are several canteens all over “campus” and all the food changes daily!  They are all organic and generally very good for you!

The canteen! Way cooler than college!

I had a great time playing with the lego on the canteen tables!  It instantly brought me back to my childhood!

Into the Blue

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I am making a color forecast and this I think it’s going to be huge! I am loving this kind of pool/teal blue and after searching my inspiration photos I have noticed that this blue always comes out.  When this happens I feel very confident that I am onto something!  It’s a super chic color and I know it will work with most skin tones.

My Own Project Runway Challenge!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

My flight arrived at 6am and an hour after that I was in my office!
My first item on my long to-do list is to check the clothes of Teresa (Herrera)! She asked me to do her dress for project runway! She loved what I lent her for my RAJO RED! gala so we decided to do make one for her in
a shorter version and in a plum and black color

.

When I arrived it was NOT to my liking! I freaked! I redid the dress in like 4 hours! I had 6 women take it apart and sew Teresa literally into the dress! Its a very tricky dress and it worked out in the end! LOL!
Thank goodness for my amazing team! God bless you all!

A few months ago we were thinking of who the final judge for Project Runway should be. We wanted someone who had broken into the international scene! It was like serendipity when Rafe Tontengco ( of the famous Rafé accesories line) told me how he loved the show and how he has been watching it on YouTube! We’re old friends–and new Facebook addicts! LOL! So on Facebook I asked him if wanted to be our final judge. He immediately said yes! I was over the moon! He was so kind enough to fly in on his own account to be a judge at the finals!

I love Rafe! He is the most generous and kindest person you will ever get to meet! I hope you enjoy these backstage photos!

Coming Home!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

You can say what you want to say about flying PAL but our national flag carrier has the best schedule when flying back to Manila!  The flight usually leaves at like 1030pm, giving you enough time to do last minute errands and shopping!  I am the type of traveller who can sleep anywhere so I just sleep on the plane and that is what I did!

I woke up and opened my window and saw the morning sunshine all over Luzon!

A wave of clouds and beautiful colors were doing a ballet for  me and a sense of optimism came over me and I thought ANG GANDA NG  PILIPINAS!

I am felt really blessed and said a prayer of thanks for my safe  journey!  I came home for the finals of Project Runway Philippines finals and I am so excited for this!

See you soon!

Sanfo Highlights!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I have always loved San Francisco!  Its easy to get around and there is always something fun to do!  I love architecture and I love museums. Often these two loves of mine combine and create the best  sensory overload.

Off Market st. in San Francisco is the Modern Jewish Art Museum.  It is beautiful inside and out!

I love the drama of the metal cube jutting out!  It proves that you can mix soft and hard elements effortlessly and create a sense of disconnect!

Visiting places like these often makes me think at how I can transfer the feeling to my work.  This could work as a stage for my next fashion show.

The other highlight of my visit is the Ferry Building!  This used to be a pier and a few years ago was renovated and houses several lifestyle stores and restaurants!

I always try to visit the Ferry Building when I come to the city as it gives me a chance to feel what’s happening around the city.

They have organic cheese store, a  mushroom and spice store even a caviar and champagne bar!

I also love the Slanted door restaurant serving modern Vietnamese cuisine!  I totally enjoyed that place and I encourage everyone to try it out!  Everything is good!

My favorite is the Pancakes  stuffed with prawns!  YUMMY TALAGA!

My next highlight is Castro st!  Its the GAYEST place in town!  Pun  intended! Nix and I had a head ache as there were too many CUTIES all over the place! Pure eye candy!

See you soon!
