Manila Art Fair!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I just came from the the Manila Art fair at the SMX Convention Center.  Let me tell you that it was really FANTASTIC!  I always love going to art exhibitions like this because it really inspires me!  The fair is on its second year and the talent and energy just seem to get better!  I have always believed that the Filipino Artist is the best in the world and this fair just made my point concrete!   You have to forgive me because I do not know all the names of the artists that I took photos of.  However if you anyone can point this out then it would be much appreciated.  I took photos of the art that moved me and art that I would not mind looking at day in and day out.

This was an installation by Valeriea Cavestany. It is called "In and out of the booz" The chair could also be an inspiration from the famous Campana brothers. I think it is called the Favela chair?

I wish I could have seen this Poklong installation work, there seems to be some light and film projections. However it was not functioning that day.

Dora + Inception!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

While I was surfing the net I came across this super funny spoof on one of the most interesting and haunting films I have ever seen!  The movie is called INCEPTION!  While watching the movie, I had a panic attack!  I really get so involved in these kinds of films that I ended up feeling like I couldn’t breathe and I felt like the whole room was going to cave in on me!  I actually had to step out of the cinema, wash my face and have a drink of water before heading back in!  So imagine my surprise when I came across this trailer!  My nieces love Dora the explorer and it’s quite cool to see her in a live action flick.  Anyway this just made me smile and I wanted to share this with all of you!

Aileen’s Wedding!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I just had  the most incredible experience with one of my brides!  Aileen Keng is what you might call a designer’s dream!  She is very tall, slim and was more than willing to put her entire trust in me.  Trust is a very important thing to have when you’re dealing with a fashion designer, because we really feel and value this.  Most especially when it comes to one of the most important garments that a woman will wear…her wedding gown.

Aileen came to me right after I did her cousin’s wedding.  Immediately, I wanted to do a Mermaid silhouette for her.  Her long and lean figure would be perfect for this.

Her wedding gown has several elements. Pleating, lace, embroidery, beading, floral and feather work. However I think I was able to strike a very good balance of putting all of those together.

Aileen's lithe figure was a perfect foil for my design.

Her entourage was inspired by my love of Origami. I also wanted to do something unusual in terms of coloring like mixing three shades of pink with the most vivid Chartreuse.   I thought that this was really fun and festive.  Let me share with you some photos from that lovely day!  To Aileen!  Thank you for trusting me with your wedding!  I will always cherish the memories!

Beautiful Blessings!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

There must something in my stars this month that just lead me to good fortune and luck!   A few days ago, my family celebrated the christening of my sister’s baby, Gabriana!  As per the custom, I am the Godfather of all my nephews and nieces and I love that!  LOL!   It also happen to fall on the birthday of my niece Alix!  Alix is one of the most intelligent 5 year old that anyone could ever meet!  She is so smart and funny that often you forget that she is 5 and not 35!

She is quite particular with everything and since it was her birthday, I asked her what she wanted.  After careful thought she sent me a note that she wanted a bracelet with a gold charm!  I was very impressed!  So I immediately called my dear friend Candy Dizon of the Jul B. Dizon fame and asked her to create something special for my 5 year old niece!

Candy created a really beautiful bracelet made from pearls and a little gold hand bag with some pink stones encrusted in it!  I was over the moon!  It was so cute and pretty!  I could not wait for Alix to wear it!  When I arrived at the party I immediately took Alix aside and presented her with the gift!  Her eyes lit up and she gave me a giant hug!  I really felt so good that afternoon and I just wanted to share my JOY!

This is Alix with her Candy Dizon bracelet! NAKS!

The following day, Candy’s daughter paid me a visit with presents in tow!  I was like OMG!  Is it Christmas already!  In the bag were some lovely chocolate goodies and another gift!

Yummy chocolates from Candy! I still have to try it out though because I am on a detox program! LOL!

I opened the gift and inside was the cutest pin for Nix!  You see, Nix collects pins of all kinds, it’s his thing!  He must have more than a dozen of them!  I love the way it spruces his out fit and makes it really more personal.  One night Candy noticed this and she said that she has to make him one!   What came out was a note pad in gold with a matching pen!  It was the cutest pin ever!

I just want to thank Candy for all her kindness and generosity!  Thank you so much!  I LOVE YOU SWEETIE!!!!

Are you an eccentric?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

My dear friends, the super stylish siblings Junie and Stacy Rodriguez, sent me this link with a test to find out if one is an eccentric!  I love eccentric people and I am drawn to them like moth to a flame!  I took the test and it turns out that I am indeed eccentric!  LOL!  Take the test and let me know if you’re one of us!  LOL!

Janina’s Surprise!

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I love SURPRISES!!!   Specially those that come from a pyramid purple box from  of Jul Dizon!  I received a text message from Janina asking about my ring size and my heart began to palpitate because I ,why would she ask for my ring size, right?  A few days later her signature purple packaging arrived on my desk.  I was so stunned that I had to take in the moment!

OMG! My heart skipped a beat when she brought in this Purple Pyramid Package!

I love her packaging as it is so unusual and unique.  The box came with another box this time from the Manila Peninsula!  GOD was really blessing me that day!  I opened the Manila Pen box first and inside it was the most lovely almond encrusted cheese cake!  It looked so yummy that it took all my energy not to put my finger in it and take a taste!  LOL!

Then I opened the note that came with the purple box and tears started to well in my eyes!  I am not really  that close to Janina but her kind gesture and her words really touched my heart!  Every hair on my back and arms were standing because I was reading the kindest letter filled with the most generous thoughts.  I was like OMG!!!!  All I felt was gratitude!

I then nervously opened the box.  Inside was another box, this time in a really chic combination of gun metal grey and chocolate brown. ( Note to self- must try out that color combination in a garment form. LOL!)  I was hesitant to open the box so I just took photos of it first!  I texted Nix and told him the good news and he told me to open it immediately.

I love the coloring of the box! I must try to do that in a garment! Gun metal grey and chocolate brown= CHIC!

I opened the box and inside it was the most beautiful antique Gryphon ring!    Janina bought the piece several years ago.  It is from Afghanistan.  The Gryphon symbolizes GUARDIANSHIP and Janina thought that I was worthy of keeping the piece.  I am deeply grateful for this gift.  Words may not be able to contain the sentiments I have but all I can say to Janina and her entire family is THANK YOU!   I do not know what else to say!  Your kindness to me leaves me speechless!

OMG! Inside the box was this antique ring! It is beautiful!

TARGET in NYC!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

I LOVE TARGET and I LOVE NYC!!!  Target is the first place I go to when I visit the states.  However, for the longest time NYC did not have one so I felt like each time I was visiting NYC was kind of incomplete.  Well things are about to change ladies and gents!  This Sunday July 25,  the first TARGET store in NYC will open!  It will be located in the east river mall and I for one am going to ask my peeps in NYC to get me some loot!

.
First thing that I want is the Isabel & Ruben Toledo beach Towel!  I ADORE the Toledo’s work!  So I have to have that!  There are more collaborations in store for us TAR-jhay fans in the store so do check it out online and for those in NYC, please send me a photo of the store!  LOL!

A talk at the Ateneo!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A few days ago I was invited to speak to a group of students at the Ateneo.  I try my very best to say yes to opportunities like this because I really believe that sharing the information I know will some how help and inspire others.  I was invited to speak together with one of the most beautiful designers I know, Ms.  Amina Aranaz-Alunan.  If I had a teacher like her back in college I would never skip her class!  LOL!

I was happy to see a jam-packed audience filled with super-fashionable students.  I was given the brief to talk about career opportunities in fashion and was told that I had around 40 minutes to do it.  I tried my very, very best to keep it in time but I think I went overtime, It’s very hard to discuss the entire fashion industry in under 40 minutes.

This is where I had my talk.

What I really enjoyed was the open forum portion where the students can openly ask me and Amina anything regarding our beloved industry.  I noticed that there were really so many inquiries and decided to stay longer and extend.  I had a class to go to in Makati and I cancelled it because the forum was really going on so well.  I would just like to share with you some photos of that day and to thank the Ateneo for inviting me to speak!  I really had a lot of fun and I also learned a lot that day!

I found this young man so cute! He had a lot of questions!
