RANDY @ 50!

Thursday, August 25th, 2011
Fifty years!   Anyway you look at it is a milestone!  A very dear friend of mine celebrated this important birthday with a bang!  His name is Randy Ortiz, virtual household name in the Philippine Fashion landscape.  We were all requested to be in our very best black and white apparel and to converge at the Manila Polo Club.  Here, Randy prepared a grand feast filled with all the good food that he himself personally chose and perhaps even prepared.
.

Here is Randy personally greeting all his guests at the entrance. I love how he is always so happy and cheerful!

I came in with Robby Carmona and Nix.

Love the old world vibe of the Polo Club!

.
Randy is actually a very good cook  and his adobo is something that I  always look forward to whenever I am invited to his home.  The party was so fun as Randy was able to gather all of his friends, not only from the industry, but his High School and College gang back in La Salle.  Knowing Randy and how meticulous he is, he organized everything to a perfect T!   However, his friends had other surprises up their sleeves.  His best friend in the entire world, fashion show director Jackie Aquino, prepared a video with Randy’s close friends and relatives giving off special messages and touching messages.  So visually moved was Randy that by the time the birthday cake came out, Randy was in tears!  Definitely tears of joy!
The whole affair was really star studded!  Kris Aquino, Lucy Torres, Ding-Dong Dantes, Janice and Gelli De Belen were all there!  Hosting the evening’s program were the wacky trio of Richard Gomez, John Estrada and Randy Santiago. Jackie then said a loving poem dedicated to his best friend and then showed a really funny music video made by Randy’s closest friends and relatives.
.

Spotted Pepito Albert's gold shoes! J'adore!

Bumped into Pia Pilapil whom I have not seen in ages!

A short video before the evening's party. Specially created by Randy's best friend, Jackie Aquino.

I loved how funny the video was.

Special appearance of Trishan, who I heard flew all the way home just for the party.

Randy became emotional when we all sang happy birthday!

Randy looking so happy!

Cheers to a really lovely human being! Happy birthday!

.
After the video, the dancing began.  Randy loves to dance and his first birthday dance was with his muse, Tweetie de Leon - doing a mean swing!  The party was made even more special by having Ogie Alcacid serenading all of us.  I also really enjoyed the special song number of Rico J. Puno!  He was really good!   All in all, it was really a fantastic party where all of us danced till the small hours of the morning!  It was really a blessing for all of us to be there to surround Randy with all our love and affection.   To Randy,  Happy Birthday!  Mabuhay ka,  mahal naming kaibigan!
.

Randy and Tweetie de Leon started the dancing!

Me and F&H's Ronald Pineda!

Queen Melo with Mother Henri and Patrice who is looking so skinny!

Ogie Alcacid sang a few songs to everyone's delight.

Robby Carmona and Juan Sarte III

Rico J. Puno was amazing!

My PINK BIRTHDAY PARTY! (Part 1)

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011
This year is a milestone birthday for me so I wanted to celebrate it in a HUGE way!  I usually have small parties on my birthday or I escape and just wander off with Nix or just me.  However, this year I really wanted to celebrate!  I have been planning this party since November last year and booked OPUS  7 months in advance.   Why pink? I like the meaning PINK gives.  For me, it means courage and to be able to love whoever you want.   A friend emailed me that  Red means courage and strength while white means clarity and peace.  The combination of those is PINK and I liked what that signified.

I wanted to put in a room the most important people in my life.  My family, my dear friends and work colleagues.  All of whom were very important in  my life journey.  I wanted the whole place to be happy and since music is a big part of my life I wanted a great band to entertain my friends.  I only had one band in mind and that was Mulatto.  I have been a fan of theirs since they began and happily, they were available.  My friend Garlic Garcia helped me create a set list that brought the house down.

After the band, I had to have the best DJ in the Philippines ….heck the world in my eyes.  So Mars Miranda had to be it!  This man really knows how to read his audience and everyone at one point was up on their feet.
.
The amazing decoration was done by Trish Panlilio of Papillo Fine Stationaries – www.papillofinestationers.com. They do great things with paper and balloons.   They  filled OPUS with 3,000 pink balloons that just made me gasp when I entered.  My dessert extravaganza was done by Bambi Hernandez.  Her company is called Alice’s Wonderlandwww.facebook.com/aliceswonderland.bambihernandez and she does these amazing tableaus for birthday parties, baptisms and everything else in between.  Her set up for me was so special because it had my fave things on it!  Phalenopsis orchids, chocolate, fitting forms all in PINK galore!  LOL!  My birthday cake was a gift from Sonja cupcakes and it was so cool!  I loved it!  Finally, the souvenirs from the party were gift cards with my Archival drawings dating back from the year I started.  This was a gift from Divine Lee.  Thank you Divine!  It was really a beautiful token of friendship.  Of course….Grey Goose for the best VODKA in the world!  YOU ROCK!  To everyone at OPUS,  I felt so at home and for this I am very very thankful! I would not have had my birthday bash anywhere else.

MY PINK PARTY!

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Today is my birthday!  I don’t usually have a big party but this year, I decided to have a really big and special one!  For the past 10 years when I do have a party I always like to celebrate with the color Pink!  I  use this as a symbol for strength, compassion and understanding.  I have to thank my friend Cecile Van-Straten for sharing this video  in her blog because it captures the exact feeling I want to convey on my birthday!  I will be celebrating tonight with my dear friends and I cannot wait to be enveloped in an ocean of PINK!

Please wear PINK today if you can!  We really must be able to celebrate love regardless of who this is!  Pass this around as much as you can because I think LOVE is always good!  Have a fabulous day.  I KNOW I AM HAVING ONE!

MY BIRTHDAY GIFT TO MYSELF!!!!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010
A few moons ago I ordered myself a birthday present! It’s something that is absolutely luxurious but at the same time timeless! It arrived today just in time for my birthday and I am over the moon! I often feel quite guilty buying myself expensive items but I thought to myself…I DESERVE THIS! LOL! It arrived in a simple black box and my heart began to pitter patter as I removed it from the box! My very own CELESTINA!!!!

When the box came in, my heart began to pitter-patter!

From the minute I saw the “LOPEZ” tote I fell in love! I fell in love with the gorgeous  Caiman crocodile skin all the way from Columbia!  I love the fact that the proportions were perfect! It was one of those “I just had to have it!” moments.

I had it customized to my preference a bit, like editing out the original wooden detail on the handle and having the straps made a bit longer so that I can sling under my arm.

I decided to go with a really dark brown almost black , because it will go with everything I own and  I want this tote to last forever! I do believe that in time, the patina of age will make my bag even more beautiful! I kept on singing in my head…Happy Birthday to me…Happy Birthday to me!!!!  While opening the box!  LOL!

Happy Birthday Nix!

Nix recently celebrated his birthday in Los Angeles. Cedric organized a dinner at the O-Bar, which becomes a really happening place after dinner. We were a neat little group composed of friends and family. We had a super time celebrating his birthday.

Forgive me for becoming cheesy, but my life has really been enriched by having my partner in my life! He is such a positive influence and I am really so blessed!

Tessa’s Neverending Birthday!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I found it so amusing when Tessa recently invited me to a dinner party for her birthday! I have attended 4 other parties in her honor and one more dinner is not so unusual! LOL! This time, the dinner was being hosted by Anton San Diego. It was really an intimate dinner of 10 people and it was really fun! Anton held it in his club/lounge The Establishment. We had the entire place all to ourselves!

The dinner was prepared by the super talented chef Godfrey Laforteza. I first tried his cuisine in Jakarta and have remained a fan ever since! His specialty is Asian fusion and the evening meal was really yummy!   The dinner was a huge success; it had all the right ingredients, perfects setting, amazing food and the stories… If only the walls of Establishment could talk! Happy birthday, my darling Tessa!

The starter plate was really good, prawns with foie gras and a chawamushi with truffle essence.

SHANG-Highlights!

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Shanghai is one of my favorite places to visit! I love that it’s only 3 hours away and the fact that I have so many dear friends who live there. Each time I come, Nix and I do our personal rounds of restaurants and a wee bit of shopping.  Even if my Mandarin is close to nil, I find it quite easy to get around. I guess we’re just lucky because there are a couple of taxi nightmares that my friends have experienced.  What I am sharing with you are the highlights from this recent trip, a photo essay of random photos that made my 4 day escape quite memorable!

Each time I come to Shanghai I give my friend Angelo Guesse a call! I love the fact that even if he is so busy he takes the time out to meet me and have a meal! He has been in China for quite some time now and I enjoy his company very much.

When in Shanghai I never fail to come to Din Tai Fung! Its a Tawainese restaurant chain that is all over Asia. Wish someone would take it to Manila! They have really yummy food! This Green beans with minced pork is a favorite.

Everyone loves a Cabaret show! So for part 2 of my best friend Bob‘s birthday, he decided to invite all of us to a Cabaret show in Shanghai! The evening was allabout dinner theaterand for 200 Yuan, we were treated to a show and dinner.

Let’s just say that if not for the company, the whole evening would have gone to the DOGS! It was so hot in the restaurant! OMG, I do not think they put on the aircon and the food was very very bad! To make matters even worse, the service was just despicable! Good thing my whole gang was in a really good mood, so almost nothing fazed us! The drag show was quite fun and the DIVA of the evening gave it her all! It was a fun evening nonetheless, as we were all there to celebrate Bob’s birthday!   Enjoy the photos!

KYOTO!

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

I want to share with you how I spent my birthday.  Originally Nix and I were to suppose to take the train to Kyoto, then head to Nara and Kobe.  The thing is, Nix had to fly back home earlier than expected for an important family engagement.  I was really sad at first at the thought of spending my birthday alone.  However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I should just go take this opportunity to enjoy myself in solitude. I have always enjoyed the my own company! LOL!  I have not been able to really travel alone for a really long time, so I took this opportunity to just enjoy my trip.

Kyoto is really an easy place to navigate, and if you like quiet shrines and the most beautiful zen gardens, then this is the city for you.  I, for one, wanted to go back and check out the geisha place called Gion, where the geisha is trained and you see them all over the place.  I even saw a show with geisha performing!  It was quite a spectacle.  I had a really amazing time on my birthday.  I was able to pray and really meditate on the blessings that God has given me.  I was also had the time just to be still, quiet and listen to my thoughts.  I recommend everyone to do this at least once in your life – to spend your birthday alone.  It’s really a special experience. I was not sad for one minute because I know that I am loved and that I have enough love inside me to go around the world 20 times and still have some left for 10 more!  Until then….I pray and thank God for everything!

I took the Shinkansen express train to Kyoto! This is the most efficient train system in the whole world! Its accuracy is like 30 seconds! GRABE! Oh..When I left Tokyo, the N1H1flu reached the Kansai area which includes Kyoto. I was scared at first but hey I am in Japan! These people are cleanliness freaks so I just got a mask and marched on!
