Loving LU!

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

My girls Leica, Kitty and Amanda decided to have a long Sunday brunch.  I took this opportunity to finally try out LU at Rockwell!  I was so excited because a couple of my readers (NAKS!) wrote me their suggestions on what to order.

When I walked in, I saw that the place was abuzz with customers and we were led to our table.  The owner Luis Terry was there to greet us and gave us a big hug!  I really appreciate it when the owners of restaurants are their because this really makes a huge difference.  After Luis explained the menu, we decided to have a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the holidays!  (As if we needed any other reason?! LOL!)

The menu was well conceived and very tempting! It's all like foreplay!

Morandi

Friday, November 6th, 2009

If you must know, brunch is my most favorite meal of all time. I have a feeling that New Yorkers invented brunch since all my most memorable brunches were all here in the city.  This time, I tried out Morandi, this lovely restaurant owned by the same people who own Pastis and Balthazar, has that same old world rustic feel; it’s like I was in the Tuscan region of Italy.

Morandi interiors. I am loving the brick walls!

The menu was very European and we had a really beautiful brunch.  My highlight of the meal was bumping into the super star chef Mario Batalli!  I was like so happy when I saw him.  I asked if I could have a photo of him and thankfully he agreed!  It was really one of the highlights of my trip. LOL!  Morandi is in the West Village just off  W10th and Perry st.  Right after brunch, we walked around the West Village and enjoyed the good weather that finally dawned upon my trip, thank you GOD!

Chartres Gardens!

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

You all know that one of my favorite things to do in the entire world is BRUNCH! So imagine my delight when we Bob took me to the most quaint brunch place in Shanghai. The place is called Chartres Gardens (pronounced as Shart), a beautiful restaurant with mint green walls and black and white marble floors. Try and get the table in front of the lush green garden, as it really was so soothing. The minute I walked in, it felt like I was transported to a more refined time.

On regular days, it’s a fancy Italian restaurant that would normally set you back 500 Yuan a head for a meal. However, for Sunday brunch, they probably have the best deals in town. For under 800 (108 Yuan) Pesos, you have a set brunch menu that is super satisfying! If you’re in Shanghai on a Sunday and you have the penchant to brunch, then come on over and try Chartres Garden restaurant. The address is 268 Fuxing lu near the corner of Huashan lu. Xuhui.  Telephone number 6212-6389. Their website  is www.chartresrestaurant.com  It’s worth the calories!  LOL!

The interiors of the restaurant is really lovely! Although it was an italian restaurant, the vibe was more French for me.

My plate had some Brioche, a beautifully cooked breakfast steak tenderloin, a huge crisp bacon rasher, some fresh fruit a salmon and cream cheese quiche and a blueberry muffin. Happy Birthday TIM!

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

I have been friends with Tim Yap for more than 15 years!  I have been witness to many pivotal moments of his life, both the highs and the lows. He has come out of all those experiences a winner, and ultimately, a finer human being.  I am so very proud of this young man, as he really defines what it is to be brave, energetic and a true visionary.  I have never missed a birthday of his since we met, and each time, it’s always filled with lovely memories!  This year was not different as he wanted to “change” things a bit, he moved his party from his usual all-nighters to a brunch.

At first I was skeptical as I know my friend and he is really more a nocturnal being.  But I was proven wrong once more by this maverick! His theme this year was “Breakfast at Timothy’s,” a play on the beloved Audrey Hepburn movie (Breakfast at Tiffany’s).  I for one am a morning person, so I was actually one of the early birds at the party.  We all began to converge at the mezzanine level of the Makati Shang, where we enjoyed an assortments of belinis, mimosas and sparking wine.  After a few hours of waiting for our host(LOL!), he arrived escorted by a three lovely Holly Golightly’s!  Everyone then proceeded to the Red restaurant and had a lovely meal, everyone but me!

Tee Nee’s Baby Shower/Brunch

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

HI!  It feels like ages since I have blogged!  I just had so much work that I had no time to sit and write.  Thank goodness for this long weekend I have the time to catch up on  what I have been up to.

A few days ago I joined a fantastic baby shower/brunch for my sweet friend Tee Nee Chan!  She is one of the most talented singer/actress in the land!  Anyhoo, she is having a baby and we decided to have a  brunch! Now brunch in the city is quite a tricky situation as no one really knows how to do it properly!

This feels like FAMILY!

Love how my girls come coordinated. (They do not plan this but it comes out this way.) Brunch outfit= Light pastels, dusty pinks with touches of green.

My gal pals!

Thank goodness for a handful (actually less than a handful, as in less than five, places know how to do a proper brunch menu) for MAMOU’S at Serendra.  They really know how to do brunch right!  They had lovely cocktails at hand, I loved the peach cocktail as its light and gave me a lovely buzz as I nibbled on wild boar on Melba toasts!  Absolute heaven in a bite, with a mix of pommerry mustard and blueberries, it’s really worth the treck to Mamou’s. ( Call now and if Tita Annie is there send her my hugs. 028563569)

The brunch we had for Tee Nee was so much fun, it felt like all the family was there and we had a fun time chatting and eating.  I had the Rau plate!  I loved how the thick whole wheat bread which was cooked like French toast but it had a surprise in the center: a lovely soft egg that just completed the whole bite. The dish also came with thick slices of bacon cooked in BUTTER!  (did you hear thunder?) I ordered a side of sausages which made me very happy!  I slowly savored this meal as It was so good! I had to have coffee and the Benguet brew was quite nice, it was tangy and strong with a nut like flavor to it.  We all shared some dessert, as an assortment of fall goodies, like pumpkin pie and red velvet!   YUM!

After the meal, Tee Nee brought out pictures of her baby inside of her!  I am so amazed a this kind of technology as you can really see the features of the baby!  Antonio Enrique Chan is GORGEOUS!  I cannot wait to see him in the flesh!  We all have to wait as Tee Nee is due in a month in the mean time, I have to focus on feeling the Christmas spirit!
