Okachi-Machi

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

There are places in Japan that become “must” places to visit for our family.  One of these places is Okachi-Machi.  It’s like a glamorous version of Divisoria!  LOL!  My Dad loves it there because it’s a virtual mecca for golf gear. I love it because it’s fun and there are a lot of cheap finds. When I do get to go, I load up on “osembe,” which are yummy Japanese rice crackers that you can buy by the bulk in the area.

Each time I go, I end up finding new things that spark my interest.  This time, it was a military surplus store that stocked up on military gear from all over the world!  Who knows, this might begin a new direction for a collection for me?

It is best to take the JR line to Okachi-Machi.

I zeroed in the Army surplus gear. What was so cool about it was that it was uniforms from Army's all over the world. Germany, France and what not! I loved it!

Full Christmas Decoration Mode!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Five days ago I decided to start decorating our apartment for Christmas!  I started with the tree and since then, I relish going home more as the smell of fresh pine just makes me happy!  Nix and I decided to use the long weekend to get some ideas on how we would decorate the house.  We first started out in Evangelista Street in Makati.  For those not in the know, this area in our local version of  the Clingancourt Market in Paris!  LOL!  ( Please manage everyone’s expectations!) It’s a series of streets in Makati that sells old
stuff.  I just love going here as you never know what you’re going to find. This trip was quite a success, as we found these amazing candlesticks for just 350 pesos each!  (reminder to self that I should do an entry on all our finds).

Found this sculpture interesting in Evangelista. It's so baduy that it's actually cool! I also found these chairs that we could refinish but the last thing we need are more chairs in our tiny apartment.

We stayed for less that an hour and then headed to Rustan’s as Nix wanted to get COCO!  COCO is our new love!  He is actually a ceramic monkey!  When I saw him it was love at first sight!  We had to have
him!  He was the cornerstone of our Christmas theme, which we christened  “A very Quirky Christmas!”

We then headed off to Shoemart as this for me is the best place to find the best deals in town. Nix and I went mad in the Christmas decor department!   We were so happy when the cashier ran up our bill as it was just a little over 5,000 pesos!  That was it!  We were able to get most of  our decor in for that!  Is that not amazing or what?  I love SHOEMART!

Our apartment is not done yet but its still a work in progress.  In the meantime, I am in search for ribbons and more notions to spruce up our tree!  When it’s done I will have a Cocktail Christmas party!!!

Tessa’s Fab Find!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I consider my dear friend Tessa Valdes as the ultimate shopper!  She just loves..no lives to shop!

One time when we were in the states I left her for one afternoon shopping, maybe a total of 3 hours and  when we met she was able to fill up three balikbayan boxes!

We met for a Thanksgiving dinner recently and I noticed her neckpiece!  I loved it!  She was very proud to tell me that the price was just under P1000!  That is incredible considering the work involved!  She bought it in Carolina’s lace shoppe! They have branches in Glorietta and in Megamall, I think they also have in Market market!

I love the colors and the beaded detail is very good considering the fantastic price!

What I love about the piece is its versatility, it can certainly bring some sparkle to any outfit!  It some how reminds me of the work of the beadwork of Azzaro.  I think its a fabulous find!  Good job Tessa!

The piece certainly adds some ZJUSH!!! To any outfits!
