Last day in LIMA!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Our whirlwind marathon across South America was coming to a close and we were determined to squeeze out more juice from our trip in our last day.  Our flight home was scheduled at around 10pm leaving us with quite a number of activities to do.  It was incredible how we were able to do so much in our last day.  This entry is an account of our last day in South America.  We could not have ended it better because we had a walking and living encyclopedia as our host/guide.  His name is John Davis and the man is literally related to everyone in Peru!  He  is the perfect guide because he knows everyone.  I loved our last day because he took us on an insiders guide to Lima.

Our fist visit was the hotel Maury where the famous Pisco sour was created! It was a nice little hotel with amazing mirrors.

Back to Barranco!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Our guide wanted to take us back to Barranco because he felt we should see and appreciate it during the day.  It was a good thing because there were so many things that we missed.

Pretty Peruvians! LOL! Their coffee here in Lima is really excellent.

Plaza Mayor!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

We decided to book a city tour in Lima. Our first stop was the city center.  The whole center is grounded by a grand plaza and I was extremely impressed!

LOVING LIMA!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010
I woke up bright and early  today and was really psyched to have an excellent day!  It is Palm Sunday and we all decided to hear the 7am mass.  When I travel to a new destination, all my senses are on a high level. I try to take everything in and generally get inspired.
We walked to the church and the weather was so wonderful!  Think sunny skies but with a gentle breeze to accompany it.  Let me show you how I started my day.
Wandered about the hotel and saw the breakfast room. Simple, quaint and lovely.

MERCADOS

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
I have always believed that the soul of a place can be best found in its local market. Each time I travel to a new place I try to seek out  their local market to find out what the people buy and eat.  We asked Raul our guide to take us to the market and what we saw was really something really special.  The Peruvians are very proud of their cuisine. Check out what they have in their local markets!
Take a look at the beautiful colors of the fruits this senora is selling.

BARRANCO!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
We got into  Lima at midnight and since all of our body clocks are now in a confused state, we decided to check out the party scene.  Peruvian’s apparently party late and we were all so delighted to find out that they only come out to play after midnight.
Our car dropped us off in front of this church, which proved to be an excellent land mark.
