Cinemalaya 2010

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

CINEMALAYA is opening this weekend!  I look forward to this each year as I love watching movies.  The whole Film Festival is more than a week long and there are so many wonderful things to see, I myself will definitely schedule a couple of nights next week for this.  The amount of talent we have in the cinema world is astounding and we all must do our share in supporting these artists!  Come to CINEMALAYA!    See you there!

NINE!

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

I love movies period!  I mean, who doesn’t, right?  But I think I am really as in REALY going to LOVE the new movie  NINE!  It is based on a old classic movie called 8 and A Half back in the ’50s or the ’60s!  But this new one has more big stars than any other movie I remember.  From the trailer alone, I feel that it is destined to be a classic!  The feel of the costumes already inspire me!  Hmmm.. I smell inspiration coming!  Enjoy the trailer!

Cinemalaya Opening!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Ever since the Cinemalaya film festival started 5 years ago, I always made it a point to watch the  movies. I am always in awe of the amount of artistic talent we have in our country, and Cinemalaya is living proof of this. Last week, I had the chance to come to the opening night. Each year, the festival seems to get bigger and brighter. This year’s opening night was jam-packed with people. Even with a strong eminent typhoon whipping Manila, the droves of people still came.

I wonder if this was because of Piolo Pascual, whose movie “MANILA” was the one chosen for the opening night? I swear to all of you, he really is super handsome! The CCP main theater was filled with shrieking fans! I would have shrieked too if I did not have a stronger grip on my emotions! LOL! After all, I was seated only one seat behind Piolo! AYAYAY! LOL!

This year’s set of competing movies are quite strong. I hope to find the time to see everything! I suggest that all of you to find the time to go to the CCP and experience this special festival! It lasts only till this Sunday,  July 25!  Trust me on this one, you only leave the cinema inspired and touched by the images and the stories our filmmakers tell!  BRAVO CINEMALAYA!

Opening night, had the Philippine Ballet dancers do their thing! I just love dancers! They truly have the best bodies! LOL!

This is the award given at the end of the festival, it is called a "Balanghay" it is inspired by an ancient Philippine boat that could travel very long distances. Just like the movies the Cinemalaya creates, they go to different countries showing them all our stories.

Piolo Pascual giving a short speech about his movie Manila. Its a retelling of 2 iconic Filipino films, Manila sa Kuko ng Liwanag and Jaguar. Its like a fusion movie. I found the images so beautifully disturbing. Watch it and be enthralled by Piolo's powerful acting!

On the 1st level of the CCP they have an installation of the various props from the competition movies this year. I found that so compelling as you could feel and see the spirit of the movie already! Here are some props from the movie Engkwentro.

Oscars Extravaganza!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

My mind right now is racing with about a thousand positive adjectives….I just came from one amazing photo exhibit!  As a tribute to the upcoming Academy Awards (on Feb. 22 and will be shown on Velvet TV on the 23rd at like 9 am), the country’s finest photographers and stylists joined forces to create an homage to the greatest films ever made! I was left with the chills, as the images were just mind blowing!  The whole evening was just FANTASTIC!  It was everything I loved….Film, Photography, Fashion!  I wish that they could extend the exhibit longer as I know it was for one night only.  I know that you will really enjoy these pictures!

This iconic image is obviously from the movie the Godfather. What is absolutely amazing is that the guy in the photo is non other than DIETHER OCAMPO! OMG! This blew me away! This photo was shot by Paolo Pineda and styled by Bea Constantino.

This photo was inspired by the film Million dollar Baby. This photo was styled by Franco Saycon and shot by Milo Sogueco. What I love about this image is the movement that it captured even if its quite violent there is a sensual elegance in its composition.

This photo was one of my favorites! Its an homage to the movie the Duchess. What I loved about this image is that its not a literal take on the movie but a stylish interpretation. Karylle plays the lead role in the photo and I love her soulful gaze. This was shot by Noelle Hernandez and expertly styled by Rex Atienza.

Edward Scissor hands is one of my all time favorite movies! I was so moved when I saw the photo of Niccolo Cosme and Stylist Lotho. They really transformed Christian Bautista into the character. It was incredible down to the minute detail.
