I am excited for RIVALRY the Musical!

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

If there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I am a theater baby!  I love the theater!  Specially musical theater!  If I did not fall in love with fashion, I would probably be in theater now.

.
When I was a wee bit of a boy of 6,  I did my very first play, “The King and I” and I was bitten by the bug!  To this day, my love for Musical theater is alive. Although most often, I am just in the audience or when I am lucky, I work on the costumes for the plays.

.
I am a La Salle boy through and through!  Green as they come so to speak.  From gradeschool, highschool and college!  I did not play basketball but I was in the Pep-squad in college which was actually surprisingly butch!  Although I won them all over with my  BOOMING voice, charm and my design prowess as I designed the pep-squad uniform all throughout college as well as our cheer dancers!  LOL!   All throughout college I would be part of those famous La Salle -Ateneo games and it would really be intense!

.
In high school, I was always in the theater productions in La Salle Zobel. There I met kindred souls whose love for theater is still on fire.  My parents were friends with Tito Ed Gatchalian whose son Gabby was in my year.  I am friends with all of the Gatchalian children and in fact, did the wedding of his daughter Geri.

.
My association with The Ateneo is more current but deeply meaningful. I work very closely with the Jesuit Priest Father Xavier Alpasa S.J. because of my Rags2Riches project.  I have many dear friends and family from Ateneo and have a full respect of their culture and institution.

.
Fast forward to this play that I am really excited about called RIVALRY!  When I look at the video attached to this entry, I see many familiar faces. Relatives, friends and people that I have worked with in all the various stages of my life.

.
I am really excited to see this show and I encourage you to block some days in January 2012 for the showing of this exciting musical!  Whether or not you’re from La Salle or Ateneo, I think you should come and see the show. You cannot deny that this is part of who we are a Filipinos!  See you at the show!

LEGALLY BLONDE OPENING NIGHT!

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

You all know that I am a child of the theater! I mean I grew up on show tunes and musicals! LOL! So when I got my invites to the preview of LEGALLY BLONDE! I blocked my calendar with a PINK MARKER! LOL!

.

I Have not seen the musical and I was really looking forward to the show.  It is brought to the Philippines by Atlantis production and they have always given me a wonderful theater experience.

Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga of Atlantis! BRAVO! BRAVO!

The Play was really really entertaining! The cast is so good! Nikki Gil was a revelation! She sang so well and I felt that she was indeed Elle Woods! Despite a few technical glitches which I think will disappear in a few more shows it was a really fun show!

The talented Mio Infante who designed the sets! It was really fun to see how many variations on the them he could pull off.

I really think that you all should take time out to see it! It is only going to be shown for a few weeks and it will be such a waste if you do not get to see the show! You will see brand new faces in the theater like Geneva Cruz who is so TIGHT that she left me inspired to do more sit ups! LOL! My cousins Yanna Laurel and Joel Trinidad are also part of the cast and they were just sensational! I am so happy that our theater scene is alive! Go and see LEGALLY BLONDE! Wear pink for extra fun! We all did!

During the intermission I always try to look for the giant fish in the pond of Meralco! It has been there for years and it is as big as an adult! I like the fact that they now light the pond in this freaky green hue that just adds to the fear factor. That is just the tail! EERIE......

The curtain call! Please forgive me ATLANTIS for taking photos! (the set it is an explosion of PINK-ness! LOL!) I just wanted my blog entry to have some juicy bits in them! Tee hee! Remember readers! No cameras and phones please!

Sweeney Todd

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

You all must know that I love the theater. I practically grew up in the theater!  My mother would always take us to watch and at the tender age of 6, I performed in The King and I!  LOL!

I just have to tell you that I just saw Repertory Philippines‘  Sweeney Todd and it was FANTASTIC!  I must really congratulate REPERTORY PHILIPPINES!  MABUHAY KAYO!!!!!

You all really must see how amazingly talented  this cast is!  Everything about the production was flawless!  Sweeney Todd is my favorite musical!  The songs are just so moving and  hauntingly beautiful!  I cannot stop raving about this play!

Next to Normal!

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I am a Broadway junkie!  When I am in New York, I try to catch a minimum of 3 shows at least! On this trip, I only had the chance to see three:  Hair, Billy Elliot and Next to Normal.  Among the three, my absolute favorite favorite was Next to Normal.  The story was about a suburban American family and how they deal with mental illness.  The music was so beautiful and haunting.  I loved how they did the staging and the flow of the story was so flawless.  I do hope that all of you get the chance to see this wonderful musical.  Billy Elliot was my second favorite; I daresay that the play was far more superior than the movie.  I was close to tears in several scenes.  The music was created by no other than Sir Elton John!   I loved it!  If you’re in town and you can only have one play to see, make it Next to Normal!  It’s worth it!

NYC Day 2

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

The weather has been pretty grey and rainy in the city, so I kind of feel lazy going out! Instead, I decided to enjoy my fabulous suite!  Oh,  they upgraded us to a bigger suite by the way!  Can you imagine?  I love my new  suite because it’s so old world!  I mean I don’t know anyone from my generation who has rooms that look like this.  It’s really lovely!

This is the bedroom! It feels like a room fit for a princess!
