SMILE-LOVA!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

If there is one thing we Pinoys  love to do when we travel, that is to SHOP!  Throughout the years I have been seeing the world with my travel group, it is essential that we balance the our trips with SHOPPING expeditions.  Imagine our joy when  we found out that Wednesday is the the “wholesale” day in IZMAILOVO or IZMAILOVSKY park!  This is like the Divisoria of Moscow. If you’re fortunate to be here on that day just like us, then by all means, shop away!  This is the best place to get all your Matrioshka dolls, khokhloma wooden sculptures and Faberge egg copies.

This is how SMILOVA looked from afar. I felt my heart skip a beat.

We took the Metro to get there and I suggest you get a guide to take you there as there a very few English signs.  Also, do not wear your nice shoes as the market is on soil and with the  rains and snow this turns into mud.  However all the inconveniences  disappear when you get to see this market.  The whole place reminded me of the Disney ride “Its a Small World”.  There were these colorful structures that only left all of us smiling.  You can find almost all things Russian here in the Market. Dolls, plates, gas masks, music boxes, traditional toys, Russian cameras and to Tessa’s delight  FUR!!!!  Tons and tons of FUR!  We all bought some sort of hats here in the market.  We all needed it because it was really getting cold.  I really loved being there, too bad that the rain and snow made us shorten the shopping and the fact that the market closes at noon.  So wake up early and get yourselves to the Smilova.    The best shopping you will ever ever have in your stay in Russia.  Enjoy the photos!
